What price eternal youth?

Ageing and disillusioned, Faust makes a fateful pact with the satanic Mephistopheles with tragic results for those closest to him.

Based on Goethe’s classic German legend, the story remains timeless in its themes: the urge to remain young and desirable, the conflict between worldliness and spirituality, the repercussions of an unwanted pregnancy and the dilemmas posed by our choices.

Gounod’s music is a feast of well-known arias including the Jewel Song, the Golden Calf and the Soldiers’ Chorus. Faust combines exuberant drama, emotional poignancy and an irresistible whiff of decadence.

Guildford Opera will perform the opera in an English edition by Peter Melville and are accompanied by a chamber orchestra - this perennial favourite will bring a thrill to the dark days of autumn: resistance is pointless!

There will be a pre-show talk at 6:30pm before the Friday performance.

Ticket offer for the Wednesday performance - 4 tickets for the price of 3.
